Boston: S.W. Tilton & Company, 1894. 1894 Tilton Edition. Hardcover in green cloth with gilt-stamped titling. This copy is in good condition only, with rubbing and bumping and soiling to the covers. Book remains tightly bound, though the front hinge is torn at the interior, still attached. Repairs to the cloth spine have stabilized tears there.

The value in this book is the long handwritten inscription by artist William Homer Leavitt, who, writing to a person named Yvonne Benoit Wadreau(?) explains that early master painters would only represent love through the image of madonna and babe. The inscription is dated April, 1934.

A fascinating bit of art history and an association with an interesting person who married and divorced Ruth Bryan, the daughter of Williams Jennings Bryan, with whom he had two children. Good. Item #1244
